Moroccan Mine Paves Road With Phosphate Waste Rock, Cuts Dust By 91%
Times of India - India · india
A Moroccan phosphate mine has successfully tested a new haul-road pavement constructed entirely from waste rock generated during extraction. Researchers designed a three-layer pavement system using crushed phosphate mine waste rock and phosphated flint, aiming to withstand heavy mining trucks while reducing dust. Field tests demonstrated a significant reduction in dust emissions, with PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations dropping by approximately 91%. This innovative approach not only addresses environmental concerns related to dust but also offers a sustainable method for utilizing mining byproducts.
