Idukki District Collector Dineshan Cheruvat has banned hot-air balloon operations at an adventure tourism centre in Munnar due to safety concerns. The decision follows an incident on August 31 where a balloon reportedly touched an electric power line. Officials cited the risk of electrocution and fire accidents due to sudden wind fluctuations. In a separate order, tourist entry to Thooval waterfalls was also banned after 13 drowning incidents, citing a lack of safety infrastructure and the inability of visitors to gauge water depth and currents.
