China has agreed to provide a $336 million loan to Bangladesh for the development of its Mongla Port. The loan comes with a low interest rate of 2%. The agreement was signed on October 10 by Alia Meher, joint secretary of Bangladesh's Economic Relations Division, and Fengjun Tian, assistant general manager of EXIM Bank of China. This funding is expected to significantly boost the port's infrastructure and operational capabilities, enhancing its role in regional trade and connectivity. The deal underscores the growing economic ties between China and Bangladesh.
