Razorpay's Prabhu Ram: India's Scale Demands Planning For External Infrastructure Failures

Building reliable digital payments in India requires planning for failures in infrastructure beyond a company's control, according to Razorpay's SVP of engineering, Prabhu Ram. Speaking at Inc42's CTO Summit 2026, Ram emphasized that companies must assume disruptions can originate both internally and in external technology layers. He contrasted this with companies like Apple, Microsoft, and Amazon, which control more of their technology stack. Ram also cautioned that AI cannot fix weak engineering foundations and can worsen problems without adequate observability.
