Food safety authorities in Kollam have launched Operation Thelima, a special initiative to address complaints about recycled cooking oil. Six squads inspected 96 establishments, leading to the closure of eight eateries lacking mandatory licenses and medical certificates. An additional 14 unhygienic stores received notices and fines. Inspections used TPC meters and a mobile lab to test 24 oil samples, also revealing issues like improper utensil washing and poor waste management. Authorities have issued strict directives and plan to continue rigorous inspections.
