Centre Extends Manipur Disturbed Area Status For Six

The Ministry of Home Affairs has extended Manipur's 'disturbed area' status under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) for another six months, effective from October 1, 2026. This decision follows a review of the law and order situation in the northeastern state, where violence continues to persist. The AFSPA grants special powers to the armed forces in designated areas. The extension comes amid recent incidents of violence, including an attack that killed four villagers in Kamjong district.
