IIT Roorkee Researchers Develop New Spring, Doubling Water Supply in Tehri Village
Times of India · science
Researchers at IIT Roorkee have successfully developed a new spring in Unchaun village, Tehri Garhwal, significantly increasing drinking water availability during the lean season. This intervention, part of a project to rejuvenate drying springs, doubles the water supply from approximately 500 litres to over 1,000 litres per day. The project utilized scientific insights from studies on Himalayan spring systems, focusing on groundwater recharge and geological processes. By identifying water-bearing rock layers and implementing trenching to enhance rainwater percolation, the team created a sustainable water source.
