Cabinet Approves Two-Year Extension for Agniveers, Offering Regular Army Entry

The Union Cabinet has approved a significant update to the Agniveer scheme, introducing a two-year 'Second Tour of Duty' for recruits. Initially, 25 percent of Agniveers will be offered regular employment based on merit after four years. The remaining 75 percent can opt for an extended two-year engagement with higher pay and benefits. Following this extended period, all willing Agniveers meeting selection criteria will be eligible for enrollment as regular soldiers. This decision aims to enhance the youthfulness and combat readiness of the armed forces.
