India Warns UNSC Permanent Members Without Veto Power Would Be 'Second-Class'

India has stated that any reform of the UN Security Council creating new permanent members without veto power would make them 'second-class' citizens. Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni emphasized that as long as the veto exists, all permanent members of a reformed Council must hold it. He argued that such a reform would not alter the decision-making dynamic dominated by the current five permanent powers. India advocates for broadening representation from Asia, Africa, and Latin America, supporting candidatures like Brazil's and its own.
