Photographer Recounts Intense, Primal Encounter With Wolf in Norway

Norwegian wildlife photographer Lasse Huldt Pedersen described his closest encounter with a wolf in eastern Norway near the Swedish border in late summer 2022. He believes the wind masked his scent, allowing him to come face-to-face with the animal. The wolf maintained eye contact, triggering an adrenaline surge in Pedersen, whose breathing eventually synced with the animal's. The encounter ended when a snapped twig alerted the wolf, which growled and disappeared.
