Supreme Court Questions Reservation Benefits After Religious Conversion
Times of India · india
The Supreme Court is examining whether individuals who convert to another religion can still claim reservation benefits based on their original caste or community status. This question arose when Sameer Ahamed, after converting to Islam and having his name published in the Tamil Nadu government gazette, was denied a certificate identifying him as a member of a backward-class Muslim community. Authorities stated that his religious change did not automatically establish his membership in the Labbai community.
