Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has selected Lakshmi Aparna, wife of former mayor Kovelamudi Ravindra (Nani), as the TDP candidate for the Guntur mayoral race. This decision concluded a week of intense lobbying and political maneuvering. The Guntur mayoral post was a keenly watched contest as it was the only one where a prominent Kamma candidate could contest under the ruling NDA alliance. Aparna's nomination came despite reported opposition from Union minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar and local MLAs, with intervention from religious seers reportedly strengthening her prospects.
