Indian Markets Plunge Amidst Rising Oil Prices, Bond Yields, and Rupee Weakness

Times of India · stocks

Indian stock markets experienced a sharp decline on Thursday, with the Sensex losing 1,045 points and closing at 71,593, while the Nifty fell 371 points to 22,232. This downturn was driven by rising Brent crude prices above $105 per barrel, a two-decade high in US Treasury bond yields, and a weakening rupee near 96.8/$. Foreign fund selling intensified, leading to an erosion of Rs 10 lakh crore in investor wealth. The Sensex is now the worst-performing major global benchmark this year, down 16% year-to-date.
