The question of whether migraine with aura (MwA) requires different treatment strategies than migraine without aura remains a subject of debate. While some agents targeting cortical spreading depression (CSD) might offer greater benefits for MwA based on theoretical grounds, direct clinical evidence is lacking. The occurrence of CSD in asymptomatic phases of migraine is also still under discussion.
