Ghaziabad Ponds Unsuitable For Plantation: Survey Reveals 90% Lack Suitable Banks

A survey in Ghaziabad has revealed that nearly 90% of the district's ponds cannot support plantation along their banks. Out of 1,075 identified ponds, only 101 were found suitable for planting saplings. The remaining ponds were deemed unsuitable due to waterlogging, wild growth, encroachment, or existing structures. This finding comes in response to National Green Tribunal orders directing an afforestation plan. The forest department has proposed planting 10,700 saplings on the feasible pond banks with a budget of Rs 17.26 lakh for plantation and maintenance.

गाजियाबाद में हुए एक सर्वे में पता चला है कि जिले के करीब 90% तालाबों के किनारे रोपण का समर्थन नहीं कर सकते। पहचाने गए 1,075 तालाबों में से केवल 101 में ही पौधे लगाने के लिए उपयुक्त पाए गए। बाकी तालाब जलभराव, जंगली विकास, अतिक्रमण या मौजूदा ढांचों के कारण अनुपयुक्त पाए गए। यह जानकारी नेशनल ग्रीन ट्रिब्यूनल के वनीकरण योजना के आदेशों के जवाब में आई है। वन विभाग ने 17.26 लाख रुपये के बजट के साथ संभव तालाबों के किनारों पर 10,700 पौधे लगाने का प्रस्ताव रखा है।
