Ladakh Saffron Blooms in Record 30 Days, Yielding 22 Grams
Hindustan Times · good-news
An experimental saffron cultivation project in Ladakh has achieved a significant milestone, with the first blooms appearing in just 30 days, considerably faster than the usual two-month period. Launched on recently restored degraded land in Leh, the pilot project has already harvested approximately 22 grams of saffron within its initial four days of flowering. The initiative planted around 90,000 Iranian saffron corms over 4,000 square metres. This experiment explores the viability of high-value saffron cultivation in Ladakh's high-altitude climate, potentially creating new economic avenues for local farmers.
