DMK president M K Stalin has condemned the detention of former chief ministers and student leaders protesting against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Left parties announced state-wide demonstrations in Tamil Nadu to protest the arrests and demand an end to the Union government’s “coercive tactics.” Stalin accused the Union government of suppressing democratic dissent and demanded the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
