Gujarat Dussehra Gold Sales Plummet 40% Amidst Soaring Prices
Times of India · business
Gold jewellery sales in Gujarat during Dussehra saw a significant 40% year-on-year decline, with an estimated 100-120 kg sold. High gold prices, which rose 23.3% to around Rs 1.50 lakh per 10 grams, coupled with weaker purchasing power, dampened demand, especially in rural areas. Limited rainfall impacting agricultural earnings further weakened rural demand. Many consumers opted for lighter or lower-carat jewellery, and gold exchanges constituted a large portion of transactions.
