Several Meitei civil society organisations and former students of Congress MP Bimol Akoijam have criticised the "media trial" and "political theatrics" surrounding sexual harassment allegations against him. They stated that sensationalised coverage and speculation risk prejudicing the inquiry and damaging reputations. The groups expressed concern that political opportunism has overshadowed the need for a fair and independent investigation. Mr. Akoijam was recently dismissed from his professorship at Jawaharlal Nehru University over these allegations.
