Jammu Kashmir Statehood Proposal Sparks Political Row

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah presented a statehood proposal in the assembly, leading to a 30-minute adjournment amid uproar. Abdullah accused BJP MLAs of obstructing the restoration of statehood, stating they were the biggest hurdle. He clarified that the proposal does not alter previously passed resolutions but aims to persuade the central government. The BJP, however, deemed the proposal controversial, citing the rejection of a similar 2000 autonomy proposal by the central government during the Vajpayee era.
