Punjab Godown Owners Demand Eviction of Pungrain Over Outdated Rates
Hindustan Times · business
Godown owners in Punjab have asked the Punjab State Grains Procurement Corporation (Pungrain) to vacate their facilities due to outdated rental rates. Pungrain, a state food department subsidiary, is attempting to renegotiate terms for storing 35 lakh tonnes of foodgrains, but owners cite rates capped since 2012. The owners argue that offering the same rent after 14 years is unjustified, especially as the state faces a severe storage crunch. Despite efforts to resolve the issue, the association has not agreed to extensions, leading to the eviction request.
