Turkiye's parliament has ratified the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, which includes a collective defence clause. The pact commits the NATO member to aiding the group if attacked, mirroring NATO's Article 5. This ratification comes as Saudi Arabia faces ongoing attacks from Yemen's Houthis. The agreement passed with 279 votes in favour and 119 against, establishing a 10-year commitment with provisions for mutual defence and defence industry cooperation.
