iPhone Explodes in Man's Pocket, Consumer Court Orders Apple to Replace Phone and Pay Compensation

A district consumer commission in Uttar Pradesh has ordered Apple India and a retailer to replace a defective iPhone or refund its Rs 29,500 price after it burst in a consumer's pocket, injuring his thumb. The commission also awarded Rs 36,139 for medical treatment and Rs 5,000 for litigation expenses. The complainant purchased the iPhone in August 2020, and it began heating up in July 2023 before exploding on August 12, 2023. The court found the mobile set defective and the manufacturer and seller deficient in service.
