The centuries-old Ramnagar Ramlila spectacle in Varanasi commenced on Anant Chaturdashi, marking the return of this 31-day open-air tradition. The opening episode depicted the birth of demon king Ravan and his subsequent arrogance after receiving a boon, disrupting Vedic rituals. Devotees gathered, witnessing the enactment of the Ramcharitmanas across a vast area. This year, the tradition, recognised as a Unesco Intangible Cultural Heritage, also saw devotees using mobile phones alongside printed texts, blending digital convenience with age-old devotion. The performance continues without modern amplification, maintaining its spiritual discipline.

बनारस की सदियों पुरानी रामनगर रामलीला का शानदार आयोजन अनंत चतुर्दशी पर शुरू हुआ, जो 31 दिनों की इस खुली परंपरा की वापसी का प्रतीक है। पहले एपिसोड में राक्षस राजा रावण के जन्म और वरदान मिलने के बाद उसके अहंकार को दिखाया गया, जिसने वैदिक अनुष्ठानों को बाधित किया। भक्तों की भीड़ जमा हुई और उन्होंने विशाल क्षेत्र में रामचरितमानस के मंचन को देखा। इस साल, यूनेस्को की अमूर्त सांस्कृतिक विरासत के रूप में पहचानी जाने वाली इस परंपरा में भक्तों ने छपी हुई किताबों के साथ मोबाइल फोन का भी इस्तेमाल किया, जिससे डिजिटल सुविधा और पुरानी भक्ति का संगम हुआ। यह प्रदर्शन बिना किसी आधुनिक ध्वनि विस्तार के जारी है, जिससे इसकी आध्यात्मिक अनुशासन बना हुआ है।
