केरल विधानसभा ने मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त (CEC) ज्ञानेश कुमार को हटाने की मांग वाला प्रस्ताव पारित किया है। किसी भी विधानसभा द्वारा पारित यह पहला ऐसा प्रस्ताव है। विशेषज्ञों का कहना है कि यह प्रस्ताव एक महत्वपूर्ण राजनीतिक और संस्थागत बयान तो है, लेकिन मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त को हटाने की कानूनी शक्ति इसमें नहीं है। संविधान के अनुसार, मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त को हटाने के लिए संसद में विशेष बहुमत की आवश्यकता होती है, ठीक वैसे ही जैसे सुप्रीम कोर्ट के न्यायाधीशों के लिए सिद्ध कदाचार या अक्षमता के आधार पर होता है।
