California's Dutch Slough Tidal Marsh Restoration Project has dramatically boosted marsh bird populations. A study published in Restoration Ecology tracked bird numbers from 2020 to 2025, finding a significant increase in Marsh Wrens. Their density rose from 0.15 to 18.47 birds per hectare, an astonishing jump of over 12,000%. Other species like Song Sparrows and Common Yellowthroats also saw substantial gains as the former grazing land transformed into suitable wetland habitat. This project highlights the ecological benefits of restoring tidal flows and native vegetation.
