Kerala Seeks Centre's Relaxation on Ration Card Verification Deadline

The Kerala government has requested the Union government to extend the three-month deadline for e-KYC verification of ration cards. The state proposes shifting inactive priority cardholders to a non-priority category instead of deleting their cards pending verification. Minister Anoop Jacob stated that 44,279 priority cardholders have not drawn rations for over six months. The government argues that non-utilisation does not automatically mean ineligibility and requires detailed examination to prevent genuine beneficiaries from losing entitlements.

केरल सरकार ने राशन कार्ड के ई-केवाईसी सत्यापन के लिए तीन महीने की समय सीमा बढ़ाने का अनुरोध किया है। राज्य ने सुझाव दिया है कि सत्यापन लंबित रहने पर कार्ड हटाने के बजाय निष्क्रिय प्राथमिकता कार्डधारकों को गैर-प्राथमिकता श्रेणी में स्थानांतरित किया जाए। मंत्री अनूप जैकब ने कहा कि 44,279 प्राथमिकता कार्डधारकों ने छह महीने से अधिक समय से राशन नहीं लिया है। सरकार का तर्क है कि अनुपयोग का मतलब स्वतः अयोग्यता नहीं है और वास्तविक लाभार्थियों को सुविधाओं से वंचित होने से रोकने के लिए विस्तृत जांच की आवश्यकता है।
