Chief Economic Advisor V. Anantha Nageswaran has released a white paper titled 'AI, Automation and India’s Workforce'. Authored by academics and an IAS officer, the paper reveals that the share of Indian employment exposed to AI has modestly increased since 2012, with improved quality of exposure. While AI complementarity has risen, fewer than 8% of employed individuals were in such occupations in 2025. The paper notes that substitution pressure still outweighs complementary work, and routine jobs exposed to automation have increased.
