Italy Cracks Down On Protest Violence With Harsher Laws

Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's government has approved stringent new security measures targeting protest-related violence. The measures include prison sentences of up to five years and fines up to €20,000 for those involved in demonstrations that endanger public safety. Parents will also be held financially liable for vandalism or looting committed by their minor children. Authorities can now detain 14- to 17-year-olds if they pose a danger, a power previously limited to adults.
