Brian May's 3D Asteroid Views Helped Nasa Find Bennu Landing Site
Times of India - India · india
Queen guitarist Brian May, an astrophysicist, used his expertise in stereoscopic photography to create 3D views of asteroid Bennu for Nasa's OSIRIS-REx mission. His work, alongside planetary scientist Claudia Manzoni, revealed the asteroid's surface was far more boulder-strewn than anticipated. This challenged mission planners who expected smoother terrain for the spacecraft's sampling manoeuvre. May's technique helped scientists better understand the height and depth of features, aiding the difficult search for a safe landing spot.
