Centre Flags Data Gaps, Regulatory Hurdles In Curbing Hospital Mark-ups
Times of India · health
The Indian government has informed the Supreme Court about challenges in controlling hospital mark-ups on medicines and consumables. Officials highlighted a significant lack of data to assess the extent of these margins across various hospital supplies. While margins can range from 100% to 1,000%, the Centre needs to establish concrete figures before considering price controls. Regulating hospital billing is complex, as health is a state subject and hospitals often use package rates, making itemised cost analysis difficult.
