New Tool Measures Damage From Individual Coal Mines to People and Nature

The Hindu - Science · science

Scientists have developed a new open-source tool, the Carbon Impacts Tracer, to quantify the specific damage caused by new fossil fuel projects. Previously, companies used a "drop in the ocean" defence, arguing individual project emissions were insignificant. This tool connects emissions to global warming and quantifies impacts like crop loss and heatwave deaths. It allows users to assess the harm from any fossil fuel project, holding companies and governments accountable for their contributions to climate change.
