Delhi's Southern Ridge, spanning nearly 1,000 acres, has been approved for Reserved Forest status by the Delhi government. This move will increase the total protected ridge area to approximately 13,000 acres once the notification is complete. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized the government's commitment to not only legal protection but also the restoration of the ridge's ecosystem. The initiative, which began in 1994, aims to revive degraded areas and control invasive species.
