Supreme Court Upholds Deletion of Dead, Shifted Voters from Rolls

Times of India · politics

The Supreme Court has ruled that deleting names of deceased voters, those who have shifted, or duplicate entries from electoral rolls during special intensive revisions is permissible. A bench stated that the final voter list available on the date of election notification would be used for local body polls in Andhra Pradesh. The court rejected a plea to defer elections until the finalization of revised rolls, emphasizing the necessity of updating lists to prevent invalid voting.
