SEBI Eases Margin Rules for Early Share Delivery; EPI Value to be Calculated on Trade

The Hindu - Business · business

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has amended Early Pay-In (EPI) rules to reduce margin requirements for stockbrokers and investors. Effective February 22, 2027, the value of shares delivered early will be recognized towards margin obligations, lessening the need for additional funds. Clearing corporations will now calculate the accepted EPI value on the trade date, which will be the lower of the delivered securities' value and the sold securities' value. This change aims to streamline processes while maintaining safeguards against potential shortfalls, requiring brokers to strengthen risk-management systems.
