Oil Prices Drop Sharply, Offering Potential Relief for India's Import Bill
Business Standard · business
Brent crude has seen its biggest weekly percentage drop since 2020, falling 16% from its recent peak. This decline is attributed to hopes of de-escalation in the US-Iran conflict following US midterm election results. The falling prices could significantly ease India's oil import bill and help control inflation. However, oil marketing companies still face substantial under-recoveries on petrol, diesel, and LPG sales due to capped retail prices. Experts suggest that further price drops would benefit these companies, potentially allowing India to increase imports from West Asia.
