Ex-Jamia Union President Supports Students' Demand for Election Restoration

Former Jamia Millia Islamia students' union president Shams Perwaiz has backed the ongoing protest demanding the restoration of campus elections. Five students have been on an indefinite hunger strike since October 12 for the same cause. Perwaiz, who led the union in 2005-06 after a decade-long struggle for its revival, recalled achievements like internet services in hostels and extended library hours. He argued that a functioning students' union, elected fairly and acting responsibly, is vital for a university. The administration has suspended three protesting students, escalating tensions.

जामिया मिल्लिया इस्लामिया के पूर्व छात्र संघ अध्यक्ष शम्स परवेज़ ने कैंपस चुनावों की बहाली की मांग को लेकर चल रहे विरोध का समर्थन किया है। इसी मांग को लेकर पांच छात्र 12 अक्टूबर से अनिश्चितकालीन भूख हड़ताल पर हैं। परवेज़, जिन्होंने एक दशक के संघर्ष के बाद 2005-06 में छात्र संघ का नेतृत्व किया था, ने हॉस्टल में इंटरनेट सेवाओं और पुस्तकालय के विस्तारित समय जैसे कामों को याद किया। उन्होंने तर्क दिया कि एक कार्यशील छात्र संघ, जो निष्पक्ष रूप से चुना गया हो और जिम्मेदारी से काम करे, विश्वविद्यालय के लिए महत्वपूर्ण है। प्रशासन ने तीन प्रदर्शनकारी छात्रों को निलंबित कर दिया है, जिससे तनाव बढ़ गया है।
