₹146-cr Bank Fraud Case: Court Allows CBI to Use 14 Witness Statements from Another Case
Hindustan Times · business
A special court in Mumbai has permitted the CBI to use 14 witness statements from a separate, connected case to prosecute Jatin R Mehta and others in a ₹146.35-crore fraud against Canara Bank. The court reasoned that re-recording the statements would be a duplication of judicial effort. The CBI sought to include statements recorded in 2018 before a magistrate. The case involves alleged defaults by Forever Precious Jewellery and Diamonds Ltd, leading to significant losses for the bank.
