Rampal, a 50-year-old visually impaired sculptor from Basti, Uttar Pradesh, creates lifelike idols of Lord Ganesha and Maa Durga using only his sense of touch. He has crafted over 700 sculptures by feeling the clay and its shape, developing an extraordinary familiarity with traditional forms. Rampal began learning the craft at age four from his father, overcoming challenges to master the intricate process of idol-making. His hands have become his eyes, allowing him to meticulously shape the idols without sight.

बस्ती, उत्तर प्रदेश के 50 वर्षीय दृष्टिबाधित मूर्तिकार रामपाल सिर्फ अपनी स्पर्श की भावना से भगवान गणेश और माँ दुर्गा की सजीव मूर्तियाँ बनाते हैं। उन्होंने मिट्टी और उसके आकार को महसूस करके 700 से अधिक मूर्तियाँ गढ़ी हैं, पारंपरिक आकृतियों से असाधारण परिचितता विकसित की है। रामपाल ने चार साल की उम्र में अपने पिता से यह कला सीखनी शुरू की, और मूर्ति बनाने की जटिल प्रक्रिया में महारत हासिल करने के लिए चुनौतियों पर काबू पाया। उनके हाथ उनकी आँखें बन गए हैं, जिससे वे बिना देखे मूर्तियों को बारीकी से आकार दे पाते हैं।
