Czech Republic Votes in Local and Senate Elections

DW World · world

Voters in the Czech Republic have begun casting ballots in local elections to choose municipal councils and one-third of the Senate's members. The elections are widely viewed as a popularity test for Prime Minister Andrej Babis's government, which took power last December. Over 8 million eligible voters are participating across more than 6,200 districts. Housing shortages are a significant concern for voters in major cities. The Senate vote will determine if the opposition can maintain its majority or if governing parties gain ground.
