IIT Bombay Student Sought Second Chance Before Suicide After Cheating

A 22-year-old IIT Bombay student, Sahil Wakode, who died by suicide last month, had submitted a written apology to the institute requesting a second chance after being caught cheating. Police have recorded over 40 statements, including from the IIT director and a professor accused by the student's parents of harassment and caste discrimination. Wakode was found dead in his hostel room hours after being caught using ChatGPT during a mid-semester exam. His parents have since begun a hunger strike demanding justice and alleging caste bias at the institute.
