Pakistan's external debt has nearly doubled in a decade, reaching $135.1 billion in 2025 from $68.67 billion in 2015, according to a World Bank report. This highlights the nation's increasing reliance on foreign borrowing to manage its finances. China stands as Pakistan's largest single creditor, with outstanding loans amounting to $22.4 billion, followed by the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank. While loans from official creditors offer better terms, the overall external debt-to-GNI ratio for the region has seen its sharpest annual increase.
