Mexican President Urges Shelter as Category 4 Hurricane Simon Approaches

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has urged residents along the Pacific coast to stay indoors as Hurricane Simon, a Category 4 storm, approaches with powerful winds and heavy rains. The hurricane's eye was moving offshore of Jalisco state with winds of at least 240 km/h. Communities in mountainous areas are warned of mudslides, and up to 76 cm of rain is possible in some regions. Classes have been suspended, and evacuations are underway in affected states including Jalisco, Colima, Nayarit, and Michoacan.
