FIDE has introduced a new qualification system for the 2028 Candidates Tournaments, eliminating rating-based spots. A new Total Chess World Championship Tour pathway has been added. The World Cup will now offer only two finalist spots, and the FIDE Circuit will span two years, rewarding consistent performance. This change aims to create more diverse qualification routes and encourage participation in major chess events globally.
