Athens Converts Old Airport Into Europe's Second-Largest Park

Athens is transforming a former airport into Ellinikon Park, set to become Europe's second-largest city park and largest coastal urban park. Spanning 400 acres, the project prioritizes sustainability with 70% green cover, featuring 30,000 trees and 3 million smaller plants. The design aims to keep the area cooler than surrounding zones using smart irrigation and on-site water treatment. Recycled building waste from the old airport is also being incorporated into the park's.

एथेंस एक पुराने हवाई अड्डे को एलिनिकॉन पार्क में बदल रहा है, जो यूरोप का दूसरा सबसे बड़ा सिटी पार्क और सबसे बड़ा तटीय शहरी पार्क बनेगा। 400 एकड़ में फैले इस प्रोजेक्ट में 70% हरियाली होगी, जिसमें 30,000 पेड़ और 30 लाख छोटे पौधे लगाए जाएंगे। इसका डिज़ाइन स्मार्ट सिंचाई और ऑन-साइट जल उपचार का उपयोग करके क्षेत्र को आसपास के इलाकों से ठंडा रखने का लक्ष्य रखता है। पुराने हवाई अड्डे के निर्माण कचरे का भी पार्क में इस्तेमाल किया जा रहा है।
