Pakistan Saves Billions With Rooftop Solar Boom

Pakistan has significantly reduced its fuel import costs by embracing rooftop solar power, saving an estimated $12 billion. This shift began during the Ukraine War when the country faced unaffordable liquefied natural gas prices and soaring electricity bills, which had risen by 155% since 2021. The steep decline in solar panel prices, by about 60% in a year, coupled with an oversupply from China, made solar installations accessible even with discretionary funds. This grassroots movement has led to approximately 10% of the national grid transitioning to solar power.
