The Supreme Court has emphasized that courts cannot ignore the plight of unprotected water bodies, directing all states and authorities to conduct physical ground-truthing and demarcation of wetlands. A bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and Vipul M. Pancholi stated that water bodies, vital for drinking water, are integral to the constitutional right to life. Despite previous directions, ground-truthing and demarcation remain incomplete after nine years. The court has granted four months for this exercise, acknowledging the extensive work involved.
