Japan has strongly criticized Russia's request for the extradition of International Criminal Court President Tomoko Akane and eight other court officials from the Netherlands. These requests follow Moscow's issuance of arrest warrants for the nine individuals in response to the ICC's 2023 arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin. A high-ranking Japanese official stated that measures targeting ICC-connected individuals are unjust and unacceptable. Tokyo has expressed its protest to Moscow and indicated it will respond appropriately, including lodging additional protests.
