Odisha Rejects Dara Singh's Premature Release Plea

Odisha's State Sentence Review Board has rejected the premature release of Dara Singh, who is serving a life sentence for the 1999 murder of Australian missionary Graham Staines and his two sons. The board cited apprehension of communal disturbance and societal ramifications as reasons for denial. Singh has spent over 26 years in prison. The heinous crime, which involved burning the victims to death, had drawn widespread international condemnation due to religious bigotry.
