A 1907 masterpiece by Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky, "Das bunte Leben" (The Colorful Life), which was looted by Nazis from a Dutch-Jewish family during World War II, has sold for approximately $42 million at a London auction. The painting, Kandinsky's largest canvas to date, was returned to the family's heirs in 2023 after decades of disputed ownership. It was originally purchased by Emanuel Albert Lewenstein and his wife in 1927 and later confiscated when the Nazis invaded the Netherlands in 1940.
